Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg is set to bring super heroines to the small screen.
ABC has given an untitled drama about female characters with superheroes from Heinberg, Marvel Television and ABC Studios a production commitment.
As with many of Marvel’s productions, details are been kept hidden, but Deadline have stated that the drama is based around some of the lesser-known Marvel characters. This would be fairly easy to accomplish, given the numerous obscure female team-ups that have appeared in Marvel comics over the years, such as A-Force, Lady Liberators, and Fearless Defenders.
Heinberg, who has an overall deal with ABC Studios is set to executive produce the potential show alongside Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb.
President of entertainment at ABC Studios, Channing Dungey, told Deadline last month, “In terms of Marvel, we have some things that we are in discussions with them right now that we are in development. I’m very excited about it.”
A female-centred series would certainly appeal to both comic book fans and the strong female viewership of ABC shows like Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, and the recently-departed Scandal.
ABC previously developed Jessica Jones, before the project was moved to Netflix as part of their big Marvel TV package. More on this project when we have it.
