Too little too late perhaps?
Despite having an actor like Mark Ruffalo in the role, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t been able to release a solo Hulk film, due to the fact that Universal still held the rights to the character, as well as the Marvel character of Namor. However, there are now rumours suggesting that this is no longer the case, as Marvel Studios may well have regained the rights to the characters.
A source confirmed to MCU Cosmic that Marvel Studios has now regained full control of both Hulk and Namor from Universal. There’s no detail as to why this may have occurred, so take the news with a pinch of salt, however if this does prove to be true, it could mean something big for the characters moving forward.
With Hulk, fans might now have a chance to see Mark Ruffalo hold his own in a solo outing, although considering that Avengers: Endgame essentially completed Bruce Banner’s arc of conflict with the Hulk, it may actually end up being a prequel.
As for Namor, there have already been a number of rumours going around that he will be the main antagonist of the Black Panther sequel, so it would be interesting to see T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) go up against another leader of a mysterious kingdom, as well as seeing the MCU’s take on the underwater world of Atlantis. However, with Warner Bros’ Aquaman being such a hit, it might be a while before we see a solo Namor film, if ever.
But for now, of course, these are all still rumours, so we’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of them.
