Ahead of the show’s sixth season premiere, ABC has renewed Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a seventh season, believed to mirror Season 6’s 13-episode length.
This early renewal is likely to do with the cast’s option coming up – along with picking up the actors’ options, ordering a seventh season now would allow for enough time for two shorter seasons to be filmed back-to-back, reducing the overall cost.
When the series move was announced earlier in the year, Channing Dungey, ABC Entertainment president made it very clear that Season 6 was not intended to be the last one:
“I feel the season we just had was creatively the strongest yet. We don’t plan it as a final season. The show has a loyal passionate base. It does incredibly well in delayed viewing.”
So, it seems that Coulson’s team have more stories to tell.
