Marvel has released a sneak peek at the upcoming Cloak & Dagger series, teasing the teen superhero drama which will premiere on Freeform in July this year.

Since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. started in 2013, Marvel Studios has been steadily building and expanding the television side of the MCU. Alongside the New York City-based Defenders shows on Netflix, late last year Marvel launched their Runaways series on Hulu, aimed at a younger audience. Now, targeting the same teen demographic, Cloak & Dagger is debuting this year.

The show has been in the works since Freeform ordered it in Spring 2016, and was rumoured to have begun filming around the same time as Runaways. However, while Runaways wrapped the first season (of 10 episodes) fairly little was heard about Cloak & Dagger since it wrapped late last year. Now this new sneak peek has offered an extended look at the titular characters and confirmed the premiere date.

Cloak & Dagger follows teenagers Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) who become the titular Marvel superheroes, and the teaser shows Tandy and Tyrone’s first meeting.

Though the meeting has a flirty undertone (unsurprising given their relationship in the comics) it turns sour when Tyrone realises that Tandy has picked his pocket. Chasing her down, Tyrone finds that when he and Tandy join hands, something happens and they’re both thrown backwards – and when they recover, each are show some kind of power from their hands – Tandy is emitting light, Tyrone disappearing into shadow.

Marvel Comics writer Joe Pokaski will take on the role of showrunner for the series, while Gina Prince-Bythewood is rumoured to have directed the pilot episode.

Cloak & Dagger will debut with a two-hour premiere on June 7th.
