Gabriel Luna’s hero will not return
Hulu has decided not to proceed with Marvel’s live-action Ghost Rider series starring Gabriel Luna.
In May, Hulu picked up two live-action series from Marvel Television – Ghost Rider and Helstrom – both to premiere in 2020. However, while Helstrom is still apparently on track, Deadline (who first reported the news) has heard that the team behind Ghost Rider had reached a creative impasse with Hulu which couldn’t be resolved, leading to the streamer’s decision not to proceed with the show.
Marvel Television remains a big supplier to Hulu, with a slate which currently includes Marvel’s Runaways, which has been renewed for a third season, and the upcoming Helstrom series. It is also involved in four forthcoming connected animated series – Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show, and Marvel’s Howard the Duck – all set for release in 2020, culminating in a special event titled Marvel’s The Offenders.
Marvel’s Ghost Rider followed Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna) as the titular hero, a man consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the border of Texas and Mexico, and when he unleashes the Rider, he brings vengeance for the innocent people he crosses paths with – but he struggles to control his power.
It’s unclear at this time whether the series will be picked up by another network.
