“Is that you, Oz?”

After much speculation over the role, director Matt Reeves has confirmed that Colin Farrell will play The Penguin in next year’s The Batman.

As has been his way throughout the casting process, Reeves announced the news by posting a gif og Farrell to his Twitter feed, accompanied by the caption: “Wait – is that you, #Oz?” A nod at the villain’s real name, Oswald Cobblepot.

Representatives for the actor also confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly.

Farrell’s casting was first rumoured late last year, and he joins the exciting ensemble of Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Peter Sarsgaard in a role which many believe to be Harvey Dent/Two-Face, though it hasn’t officially been announced.

The Batman has already begun filming, and is currently slated for release on June 25th, 2021.
