The actor will play the legendary stuntman for the USA Network
The USA Network has ordered limited series Evel, based on the life of eccentric daredevil Evel Knievel, and set to star This Is Us actor Milo Ventimiglia who will also act as executive producer.
The series is based on the story of Knievel as he prepares for the historic Snake River Canyon jump – his greatest death-defying feat. It will be an exhilarating portrait of the complex man living the American dream, juggling his sudden celebrity as well as family life – and the very real possibility that his next jump may be his last.
Evel has been in the works as USA for a while, getting on the fast track when Ventimiglia sought it out and signed on to play the man himself. For executive producer McG, this project will bring to fruition a long-time passion, as he signed up to direct a feature biopic, Pure Evel, more than seven years ago – but it never happened.
Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks (USA Network and Syfy) said of the project, “USA Network is known for big event series that celebrate heroes, rebels and icons, and what could be bigger than the story of one of the greatest thrillseekers of all time? The incredible life and journey of Evel Knievel lends itself to a dramatic retelling, and we are excited to be partnering with Milo, McG, UCP, Atlas and Wonderland to bring this iconic American tale to our viewers.”
