BEN AFFLECK TO DIRECT BATMAN MOVIE
“Batfleck” has signed onto direct a solo Batman movie for Warner Bros. For the studio this can only be a good thing as stats coming in have seen that Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice narrowly missed the $1billion mark. It would give Affleck, who directorial abilities have scored him praise and accolades such as the Best Film Academy Award for Argo, a chance to suit up again and give the Dark Knight a meaty solo story, one where we can really see him in action and not facing gargantuan CGI creatures. With 2 JLA movies, Wonder Woman (currently in production), Batman and another 6 planned movies mean that DC’s cinematic universe roster will likely be packed past 2020.
BILL & TED III TO START FILMING THIS YEAR
Fingers crossed this actually happens. The original writers of the movies Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson have been
sitting on the script for over 6 years and they are ready for production to begin. They have the director, they have the stars, they have the studio, they have the legions of fans so start shooting already!
Let’s be fair, this movie didn’t have either Alex Winter or Keanu Reeves it wouldn’t be happening at all. And nobody would care. And nobody would see it.
According to Alex Winter, whose Kickstarter campaign to fund his feature film Who the F#$% is Frank Zappa is nearing completion, the script is great and very confident of the writers hard work and merits.
We’re still waiting to find out when it’ll be released and who else will be featured in it but shooting will begin at the end of the year.
We at SBOC cannot wait to see the Wyld Stallyns return.
SPIDER-MAN IS COMING HOME
The Spider-Man reboot has got its subtitle and it’s called Homecoming.
When this movie was announced it was thought that it would be another origin story but now reports suggest otherwise and it will only touch lightly on that area. As yet, Tom Holland, Marissa Tomei and Zendaya are starring as the titular hero, his Aunt May and ‘Michelle’, respectively. A snippet of footage, shown at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, sees Parker coming home to find his Aunt talking with Tony Stark.
The movie will see it released on 28th July 2017
THE WOLVERINE SEQUEL
Boyd Holbrook, best known as DEA Agent Steve Murphy in the hit Netflix series Narcos, has signed up as the movies villain in the unnamed sequel. As to who that may be remains to be seen but if James Mangold keeps his direction as balanced as he did in his previous venture with the ol’ Canuck this should be another entertaining ride. Several sources have stated that this movie will be set in the future, which means we could be seeing an Old Man Logan feature. The movie will also be Hugh Jackman’s last as Logan so an appropriate end off is a must after 17 years in the role.
It’s scheduled to be released on 2nd March 2017 so they’d better get cracking on shooting it.
THE INHUMANS MOVIE CANCELLED? NOPE
The titular movie release date is being pushed back. Slightly. Sorta. Marvel/Disney sage Kevin Feige has confirmed that while the movie hasn’t been cancelled it has been pushed back until at least 2019 to allow Indiana Jones 5 to take its place and to push up Ant-Man and the Wasp and the Spider-Man reboot (see above). This means that Captain Marvel could also be pushed back from its March 8th 2019 date, messing around with the whole schedule.
JUMP IN WITH THE MEN IN BLACK
I still cannot believe this is actually happening but here it is. Men In Black and the boys from Jump Street will meet in MIB 23. How they come together is still unknown but given the nature of action, comedy and fantasy both these franchises have brought us already we can only hope that they riff off the parody sequels at the end of 22 Jump Street. in some way.
Why can’t we see Agents J and K meet Schmidt and Jenko in a hospital morgue where they discover the DB on the table is in fact an alien and the mayhem rolls on from there?
Alas, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not expected to sign on, instead we’ll likely be introduced to new recruits or Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum become recruits themselves. It’s not at all far-fetched. We refer you to ‘2121 Jump Street’. Enjoy:
WHO IS HAROLD MEACHUM?
300 and Lord of the Rings actor David Wenham has been cast as villain Harold Meachum in the upcoming Marvel/Netflix series Iron Fist. In the comics Meachum is responsible for the deaths of Danny Rand/Iron Fist’s parents. We assume that he’ll be playing a pretty heavy and pivotal role in the series.
