Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2

Directed by: James Gunn
Written by: James Gunn
Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for since Marvel released the teaser a couple of months ago, and given the year is almost at a close, and that darn Chris Pratt is so hot right now with the imminent release of Passengers, now seems like the perfect time for us to see another, lengthier teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, set for release next year.

Yes, James Gunn’s band of loveable weirdoes are back, and this trailer (accompanied by The Sweet’s ‘Fox on the Run’) reminds us of just why we loved them so much to begin with. It may start with a very large monster with a lot of tentacles, but the heart of this trailer is to show us that the humour that the first film was praised for is still going to be present in this sequel.

The trailer opens with the kind of dialogue we’ve now come to expect from a Marvel production, some weighty statement that sets up the film’s plot, and as a voice says “The fate of the universe lies of your shoulders” you could be forgiven for expecting this sequel to a lot more serious than its predecessor. But, when it’s revealed that it is Rocket explaining to little Baby Groot about the button on an atomic bomb, we’re very much back in familiar territory. Not to mention that their exchange proves once again that miscommunication is always funny, even when the audience doesn’t know what one of the people is actually saying.

From there, the focus is very much on the group, with another roll call that shows the Guardians that we have come to know and love. We get a glimpse of Star Lord’s unwavering confidence, Gamora’s general badassery, Drax finally getting to grips with the whole ‘metaphor’ situation, and Rocket and Groot’s adorably volatile partnership. It’s a welcome look at the team we’ve known, proving that despite the many, many, terrible and unnecessary sequels that have come around, Guardians of the Galaxy seems to be going strong and Marvel cannot go wrong. This movie can’t come fast enough!
