Exciting news from the comic world today, as Mark Millar’s artist-run indie comic book publisher Millarworld has been bought by industry heavyweight Netflix.
Millar, who started the company 15 years ago, is the man responsible for a huge amount of successful comic books such as Wanted, Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Old Man Logan and Civil War which have all been made into blockbuster movies – as well as Time Magazine’s comic book of the decade, The Ultimates, which was described by Avengers screenwriter Zak Penn as the ‘blueprint for the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘.
And now, with the weight of one of the most exciting media companies in the world behind them, Millarworld will be able to take the characters they have created and turn them into global powerhouses.
While Millar was quick to state that Kick-Ass and Kingsman will not be part of this deal, given their ties to other production companies, there’s still plenty for Netflix to get their teeth into. We look forward to seeing what this duo will create together!
