Far Cry 5 looks to be taking the series in an exciting and bold direction by setting it in America. Players must fight off a cult which is terrorising rural Montana and pushing its ideals and agenda on the people living there.
Ubisoft have released a new trailer which slaps you across the face with a heaping of bullet-crazed, flag-waving mayhem. The trailer, which can be viewed below, gives us a closer look at the Resistance, complete with flamethrowers, bows and 18-wheelers. It’s that very special formula of over the top action and blood-soaked carnage which distinguishes the game from other FPS and gives off a flavour that could only be Far Cry.
We’re also given a brief description of how The Resistance will play into the gameplay mechanics, the more you liberate a region, the more the Resistance meter will fill up, which in turn will grant the player more support from Resistance fighters. There’s also a look at the dog character which will provide support player, showing that it can carry and retrieve weapons.
Far Cry 5 will feature a number of elements from the previous games including dangerous wildlife and wingsuiting. This time around there are also commemorative plaques dedicated to the insane stunts of Clutch Nixon which when found, will allow players to recreate them. You can also enlist guns for hire to help with liberating the region or go it alone of course.
The game received a fair bit of controversy upon its announcement, as many pointed out the similarities between the political climate of the game and those brewing IRL. It’s tricky subject matter for sure, we will have to wait and see if it ends up as poignant or just downright tacky.
Far Cry 5 will release March 27 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC after recently being delayed a month.
