Some 25 years after the release of the unsuccessful live-action Super Mario Bros film, starring the late Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as his brother Luigi, Nintendo is working on another Mario movie – though this time, it will be an animation.

From the company behind the Despicable Me films, Illumination Entertainment, this project is in the early stages of development, and is a way off at the moment. Talks have been going on for over a year now, and this time Nintendo looks to be a lot more involved in the process – with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto on board as a producer.

There isn’t much more on this project at the moment, as the deal isn’t completely finalised yet, but we will bring you more on the Super Mario Bros movie when we get it.
