Earlier this week hardware developer Gamevice filed a lawsuit against Nintendo for its use of the Joy-Con detachable controllers on the Nintendo Switch. Gamevice are claiming that the product uses elements similar to a patent they were granted for a “Combination computing device and game controller with flexible bridge section”, which details a computer system flanked either side by a pair of connected controllers.
In the law-suit, Gamevice outlines the details of the ways in which they believe that the Nintendo Switch copies the design. The company is demanding that Nintendo halt the production of the design and award damages. One thing to point out is that the patent specifically outlines that the controllers are connected by a “flexible bridge” which is an element which the Nintendo Switch does not make use of.
