Ahead of the series’ debut on October 12th, DC Universe has already renewed Titans for a second season – which could be a risky move.

Written by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti, based on DC Comics characters, the series stars Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, and Ryan Potter, among others. The story follows a group of young superheroes, struggling to find belonging in a gritty take on the Teen Titans.

In the series, Dick Grayson (Thwaites) steps out of the shadows in order to become the leader of a new band of heroes including Starfire (Diop), Raven (Croft), Beast Boy (Potter) and more. It is a dark, live-action series which sets out to explore and celebrate one of DC’s most popular teams.

This renewal follows on from the closing of an international rights deal which will see Netflix stream Titans globally outside of the US and China (where Netflix is unavailable).

As well as screening the first episode of Titans for the audience, the NYCC panel for the show also released a new trailer, which takes a closer look at the team:

Titans premieres on October 12th.
