Jonah Hill is no longer in talks for a role in the film

Matt Reeves has found his Riddler in the form of Little Miss Sunshine and Prisoners actor Paul Dano. It was previously rumoured that this was the role that Oscar-nominee Jonah Hill was in talks for, but according to Deadline, Hill is no longer in talks for any role in the film.

Dano’s version of the character is named Edward Nashton, the man who later in the comics goes by the name of Edward Nygma and adopts his villainously inquisitive persona.

Created by Dick Sprang and Bill Finger, the Riddler is a supervillain who engages Batman in a battle of wits, leaving riddles and clues that the Dark Knight must solve in order to catch him. Since the character’s debut in 1948’s Detective Comics #140, he’s become one of the most famous Batman villains, appearing in many films, cartoons and video games over the past seven decades.

Dano joins an already stellar cast of Robert Pattinson as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman/Selina Kyle and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.

Reeves has already explained that he plans to feature a “rogues gallery” of Batman villains in the film, so we can expect many more exciting announcements to come.

The Batman is currently slated for release on June 25th, 2021.
