Fans of Pokémon have been reacting with shock and horror, after the franchise’s latest movie sees Pikachu speaking English for the first time ever.
The iconic character is arguably one of the most recognisable the entire series, and has traditionally only ever been able to communicate by repeatedly saying his own name. However, in a particularly odd sequence in new movie Pokémon: I Choose You, has shown Pikachu speaking for the first time as he tells Ash that “I always want to be with you.”
Hi, I am just learning that Pikachu speaks English in the new Pokemon movie and, yes, it is extremely fucking weird pic.twitter.com/k5hm5lyW7Y

Footage posted to Twitter hilariously shows fans reacting with disbelief as Pikachu speaks, with a number of shouts and expletives being thrown around.
However, it isn’t just audiences that found this dialogue weird, as Pikachu voice actor Kate Bristol admitted that she and her co-stars found it “super weird.”
“I saw it as something in Ash’s mind. But it’s up to anyone. And it’s OK to think it’s super weird,” she said via Tumblr. “I sat in the theatre with the rest of the cast while everyone shouted ‘what the fuck’ and I sat there laughing at how bizarre it all is, especially hearing my squeaky little voice come out of it.”
She also added, “At the end of the day Pokémon is a good time and I sure as hell enjoyed being a pikachu for .5 seconds.”
Pokémon: I Choose You! was released on November 5th.
