Niantic recently revealed a regular events series called Community Days would be making their way to Pokemon Go. These events will be held every month and will give Pokemon Go players a chance to earn double XP bonuses and catch exclusive Pokemon.
The first of said series arrives tomorrow (January 20) for players all over the world. This time around, the events will take place at a specific time whereas previously they have been held in specific locations.
Saturday’s Community Day takes place at the following times:
- Asia-Pacific: Noon to 3:00 PM JST
- Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM UTC
- The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM PST
Players will have the chance to catch a Pikachu who knows surf, a throwback to Pokemon Yellow. This kicks off a theme which will be shared by all of the exclusive Pokemon in the Community Days in that they will all know a move which they cannot learn in the game. On top of this, players will be able to earn double XP and Lures will last for an extra 3 hours.
January has already been great for Pokemon Go players with the introduction of Kyogre, the legendary from Pokemon Sapphire. This follows the inclusion of Groundon, the legendary Pokemon from Pokemon Ruby who was available up until January 15. You can catch Kyogre in Raid battles at certain gyms up until February 15.
Niantic recently launched updated AR functionality for the game, allowing it to track the players position to each pokemon and adding in awareness indicators above their heads. The feature is only available to IOS 11 compatible devices currently though.
Hopefully setting the events all at once will encourage a larger pool of players to get out there and enjoy the bonuses and catch surfer Pikachu. Will you be donning your battery packs and heading out tomorrow? Are you even still playing Pokemon Go? Let us know in the comments.
