When Pokémon Go developers, Niantic revealed that they were developing a new augmented reality game based on JK Rowling’s wizarding world, fans didn’t know what to think. Now, with the release of a new teaser, we have a better look at Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Announcing that Wizards Unite will arrive sometime in 2019, the teaser offers a little more information on story, while the registration website for the game reads:
“Please resist the urge to panic. Traces of magic are appearing across the Muggle world without warning and in a rather chaotic manner. We worry it is only a matter of time before even the most incurious Muggles catch wind of it. We call on all witches and wizards to help contain the Calamity or risk the worst of times since You Know Who. Brush up on your spells, get your wand ready, and enlist immediately.”
As with the witch in the teaser, who uses the Immobulus charm to freeze a snitch, players will have to use spells to reduce the threat of magic being exposed, as is a prevalent theme of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Instead of searching for Pokémon, it seems that players will be hunting for magical phenomena.
Players will join the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, created by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards in order to “hone lightning fast wand reflexes,” “sniff out the faintest whiff of magical disorder from afar,” and work on “advanced casting of multiple spells.”
Registration is open now for witches and wizards who want to join the fight.
