After months of speculation Marvel have now confirmed several new stellar additions to the Thor movie universe.

Joining Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba, will be Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo (okay, we knew about him ages ago).

Blanchett will don, what we hope will be, a green and black get up with a vast jagged head dress, blackened eyes and an ice cold heart to match the goddess of the underworld, Hela.

Karl Urban, another Aussie, could be standing by the Asgardians as destruction looms on their realms as Skurge, the Executioner, who wields a magical double-bladed axe. He is ubiquitously seen with Echantress, a svelte temptress who has a special place in her heart for Thor, a tough thing to accept for Skurge given his own love for her. Could we see Enchantress here too? Even more green outfits! Yay!

He’s frequently called a lovely guy and a consummate professional on stage and camera so having Jeff Goldblum take on the deceptive Grandmaster is a contrast to his natural personality (it’s what people call acting) and a welcome presence for the MCU. The Grandmaster is the wielder of an energy known as the Power Primordial, is immortal, loves playing games and wears pointy collars in all his garments.

As SBOC had earlier reported Natalie Portman will not be returning to the franchise as Dr. Jane Foster (maybe she’s living it up with her Nobel Peace Prize), instead we’ll be welcoming Creed actress Tessa Thompson. The producers teased us that she to play a strong woman with stronger ties to Thor and Asgard. They weren’t kidding as she will take up a sword, feathered helmet and equine steed as Valkyrie. Here’s hoping they’ll transform her into a swan too. At least keep the pig-tails.

Also returning will be Anthony Hopkins as everyone’s favourite All-Father Odin. How this is possible remains unclear given the somewhat ambiguous ending of Thor: The Dark World and Loki’s resurgence to life after his ‘demise’ on Svartalfheim at the hands of Algrim/Kurse.

Fellow Avenger and warrior-at-arms (or just triceps) The Hulk who will also make an appearance. If he appears in Asgard puny Banner will be Avenger to travel to do so and could be quite exciting to see him fight alongside these deities.

We hope that Sif and the Warriors Three will retake their position behind Thor as the end of (their) times approaches. A key person as to the cause of the destruction of Asgard in Norse lore is Balder, who is yet to be cast. If he is to be cast at all.

Shooting begins soon with New Zealand director Taika Waititi taking on what is sure to be an incredible and powerful battle. It will be shot in Australia
