With Red Dead Redemption 2 slated for release next Spring, now seems like the perfect time to start gearing up interest in the title (not that it really needed any help). Rockstar today announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 content will be making its way to GTA Online in the form of a new weapon and challenge.

This news comes after data-miners found Red Dead related content in the code of GTA Online which pointed to a scavenger hunt in which players must take photos throughout San Andreas. The first clue was sent to players earlier via an email and will allow them to track down a new weapon, the Double action Revolver. Once they have the gun, they can then complete in the Headshot Challenge which will launch in Freemode and will award players with GTA$250,000 in game.

The weapon will then be available for use in Red Dead Redemption 2 when it releases next year. The full description of the event is as follows;

“Rumors of a lost relic from the frontier have begun to surface, and treasure awaits those bold enough to seek it. Keep your iFruit handy for a special in-game email containing the first clue, then follow the trail to unlock the Double Action Revolver in GTA Online. Once you acquire your gratis Double Action Revolver, complete the Headshot Challenge in Freemode for a GTA$250,000 reward and unlock it for future gun-slinging exploits in Red Dead Redemption 2

Stay tuned for more news regarding the gun-slinging sequel and be sure to check out the teaser trailer below.
