Drawing inspiration directly from the book series, del Toro is producing the film as well as having cowritten the screenplay. Helming the project is André Øvredal, director of Troll Hunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
Not much is currently known about the plot, but Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will follow a group of teenagers as they endeavour to find the cause of a series of horrifying deaths. Judging from the cast, we’ll be getting a teen squad of six, as Austin Abrams (The Walking Dead), Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Gabriel Rush (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Austin Zajur (Kidding), Natalie Ganzhorn (Make It Pop) and Zoe Colletti (Wildlife) have already been announced.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is currently slated for release on August 9th, 2019.
