It seems that Iron Man might well survive Infinity War as Robert Downey Jr has officially confirmed his return for Avengers 4 by sharing a set photo on social media.

Fans have debate whether Iron Man, as one of the founding Avengers members would be struck down in Infinity War, as one of the casualties of Thanos’ strike. However, Downey has now confirmed that he will indeed be appearing in the fourth Avengers instalment by posting a photo from the set, showing his chair – as well as those of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), showing that these characters will also be appearing in Avengers 4.

Filming on the sequel began in August – not long after the cast and crew finished filming on Infinity War – this film will mark the tenth and final part to Marvel’s Phase Three. The occasion was marked by directors Joe and Anthony Russo posting a cryptic photo of a gloved hand.

Earlier in the year, Joe Russo teased that Infinity War could well be the longest Marvel film yet (which isn’t that surprising when you consider the sheer amount of characters it involves) claiming at SDCC that:

“The current cut is over two-and-a-half [hours]. Most of it’s a movie you could show, but there’s still a lot of work left to be done. I still have a couple of scenes that we haven’t finished from Avengers 3 that I’m shooting in the next few months with my brother, and it’s certainly gonna be a film that lives in the two-and-a-half-hour, two-and-a-half-hour plus range.”

He went on to explain:

“It’s a culmination event. We’ve gotta take 10 years of storytelling in this Marvel narrative experiment that’s been going on since Iron Man, and we have to take all these disparate tones, disparate themes, motivations, and we have to pull them together in a unified narrative and write the final chapters of the book. There’s no way you could do that with all these characters in under that running length.”

Avengers: Infinity War comes to the UK on April 27th, 2018, and to the US on May 4th, 2018.

Avengers 4 is set for release on April 26th, 2019 in the UK, and May 3rd, 2019 in the US.
