It’s being reported that Robert Pattinson is in negotiations with Warner Bros. to play young Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

Sources told Variety that while it isn’t a done deal, Pattinson is the studio’s top choice for the role, and the deal is expected to close shortly.

The former Twilight star at 33 would become the second-youngest actor to portray the Dark Knight, after Christian Bale, who was 31 when Batman Begins was released in 2005.

Reeves, who helmed the last two Planet of the Apes films, took over Batman directing duties from Ben Affleck in January 2017 and has been developing the project ever since. When Affleck and Warner Bros. agreed that the actor would leave the role behind following Justice League, it was decided that Reeves would be allowed to choose his own Bruce Wayne.

After the more recent disappointments in the DCEU, Warner Bros. has given Reeves plenty of time to develop his script, and no official start date has been set for the film’s production, despite a solid June 25th, 2021 release date.
