Hot on the heels of last years international/intergalactic box office success Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Disney’s first stand-alone SW movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Set 5 years after the events of ‘Rebels‘ and shortly before ‘A New Hope‘ it sees a group of young rebels spies who set out on a mission to steal the plans for an immense secret weapon being built by the Galactic Empire; the Death Star.

The trailer has finally dropped:

Director, Gareth Edwards, helms what appears to be action movie more than a sci-fi adventure but is this what Disney want from these movies, so that they are structural different from the main story?

Edwards’ last feature, Godzilla, laid on heavy special effects on the gargantuan lizard rampaging through cities but left a lot of viewers quite empty and yearned for more drama and substance. Here, we have what we hope is exactly that. The camera angles and concepts are certainly different from what George Lucas and Lucas Arts have inspired us with before so will this be a refreshing new direction for the franchise or an unworthy risk too far?

Barely anything has been said of who the cast are portraying. The first trailer has only given us a brief insight into Felicity Jones playing a badass fighter, Jyn Erso. Irish actress Genevieve O’Reilly, reprises her role of Mon Mothma that was last seen in a deleted scene in Revenge of the Sith.

Rumours floating around also suggest that Darth Vader will be making an appearance but until we see more we believe nothing.
