Ben Mendelsohn has been on a recent run of bad guys, including Rogue One’s Director Krennic – and this looks set to continue as Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are looking for the actor to be the movie’s big bad.
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced that the film, starring Brie Larson as the titular hero, would be set in the 1990s, and featuring a two-eyed Nick Fury. Carol Danvers will battle shapeshifting aliens, the Skrulls, and it sounds like Mendelsohn could well be playing a Skrull leader, though obviously we won’t know for sure until they confirm his role.
Still, Boden and Fleck stand a good chance of casting Mendelsohn, as they directed him in 2015’s Mississippi Grind.
Mendelsohn can next be seen in Darkest Hour, to be release January 12th next year. He’ll be continuing his villainous streak in upcoming films, Ready Player One (due March 30th next year) and next year’s Robin Hood (due for a September 21st, 2018 release).
Captain Marvel is aiming for a March 8th, 2019 release.
