Ruby Rose, known for her role in Orange is the New Black has won the role of The CW’s Batwoman in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover event.

Rose will play Kate Kane, a young woman with a passion for social justice, who is highly trained in street fighting. She will make her first appearance in December’s Arrowverse crossover event with the casts of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – which will potentially lead to her own series, in development for a possible slot in next year’s CW roster.

CW president Mark Pedowitz didn’t share details about Batwoman’s role in the crossover at his TCA panel, but he did say that it is “big enough that we’ll think about doing a pilot and series with her.”

The logline for the potential Batwoman series reads: “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
