In the Season 6 finale Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo) made a passing reference to a legendary group of assassins named The Longbow Hunters, and thanks to the Arrow SDCC panel, we now know not only that the group will be a part of Season 7, but who will be portraying them on screen.

The Longbow Hunters are comprised of three assassins: Red Dart (Holly Elissa) “a ruthless and precise killer”, Kodiak (Michael Jonsson) “a beast of a man with brute force”, and Silencer (Miranda Edwards) a master of stealth. They are recruited by Diaz in order to get back at Team Arrow for attacking his criminal empire in the season 6 finale.

While this group shares a name with a classic comic from the ‘80s, this iteration of The Longbow Hunters will be based on Jeff Lemire’s run of Green Arrow during the New 52, where the team was founded by Diaz.

Season 6 of Arrow ended with Oliver publicly admitting that he was the masked vigilante, willing to be jailed for his crimes. When we return to the story in Season 7, Oliver will still be behind bars, where he will be faced with some of the villains he helped to put in there, including Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White), Derek Sampson (Cody Runnels), and Brick (Vinnie Jones).

When the cast spoke at SDCC, they revealed that the upcoming season will get pretty dark, and Stephen Amell even went so far as to say that fans probably won’t be too happy with the incarcerated hero:

“I hope people watch the premiere and are super-pissed at Oliver. There’s one scene in particular where he should be better, and he’s not. He sucks.”

With Oliver behind bars, the rest of Team Arrow will have to learn how to go forward without their leader, as Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake) explained, “The team is definitely broken. After all of the animosity that happened between us last season, and the predicament Oliver is in, and the sacrifice he made for us, the hierarchy is broken and we need to restructure and re-evaluate how we approach the team.”

Arrow returns on October 15th.
