Co-author of Good Omens, Neil Gaiman, made an appearance at SDCC and revealed that Oscar-winner Frances McDormand will perform the voice of God in the Amazon adaptation.
The actress actually made her debut in the role through the speakers of Ballroom 20 to tell Gaiman not to show any footage from the series, claiming that he “can’t argue with God.”
Gaiman did show some footage, however, to which McDormand’s heavenly voice conceded “You’ve earned your place in Heaven, I’ll have my people take to your people.”
In Good Omens, the novel, Metatron (the official name of the character) is characterised as “the Voice of God. But not the voice of God. An entity in its own right. Rather like a Presidential spokesman.”
As well as announcing the new casting, there was also some key art released (above) stating “The End Is Nigh” and a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the series.
Good Omens is set to launch in 2019.
