The adult versions of the IT cast didn’t have a lot of time to learn about their kid counterparts – but according to Jack Dylan Grazer (Eddie) during a SDCC interview about his upcoming film, Shazam!, they devised a quick and easy solution.

Grazer, who will reprise his role in the sequel, couldn’t really reveal anything about the film, but what he could tell fans about was the cast’s ingenious preparation methods.

“I haven’t shot anything yet. I just went to the table read, and I can assure you it’s very good,” he explained, though he did acknowledge that talking about the film is “a touchy subject.”

He also recalled:

“When I first got to Toronto for the table read, we went out to lunch, all of us, and the acting coach from the original IT, the one we shot in 2017, came up to us and was like, ‘I have an idea: you guys should do like a speed dating thing and just talk to your adult version.’”

Each of the kids only spoke to their adult counterpart, which makes sense, but Grazer said that he learned a lot about “PJ” – the apparent nickname of adult Eddie actor, James Ransome – and Ransome, in turn, learned a lot about him.

Let’s hope this method pays off when we see the final product.

IT: Chapter Two is currently scheduled for release on September 6th, 2019.
