The Riverdale cast took to the Hall H stage to discuss the upcoming third season of the show, and from the panel came many teases, including a new cast member, and the possibility of another musical episode.

They began the panel with the video above, which teases the upcoming season with some new footage with Veronica (Camila Mendes), Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) having fun at the lake. But the footage takes a more sinister turn when we get a shot of Alice (Mädchen Amick) and Polly (Tiera Skovbye) engaging in some worryingly cult-like activities on “the Farm.” (The new stuff starts around 2:06)

“It heals you,” Amick said of the Farm, before going on to tease a ‘really handsome cult leader.’

As for what their involvement in this cult means for Betty, Reinhart explained, “Alice and Polly kind of attack [Betty], and their new weird spirituality with the Farm makes them tell her that she needs to listen to her soul and really confront her problems, and so Betty wants to stay far, far away from them.”

Which is fair enough – though thankfully for Betty (who has spent the summer prior to the events of Season 3 doing an internship) her “rock solid” relationship with Jughead is something of a safe place when the series returns, as we’ll see the duo return to the investigative team that fans loved so much in the first season.

However, Veronica and Archie aren’t on as solid ground. What with Archie’s trial and Veronica running the speakeasy in Pop’s that she proposed in Season 2 – as well as her having to work following Hiram (Mark Consuelos) cutting her off – the couple will run into a fair amount of problems.

As for the school life of the characters, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said that “We’re going to try to infuse this season with a lot more high school stuff.” Exams and university, that kind of thing.

There were a few more teases that came out of the panel, including the fact that we will see the Hot Dads of Riverdale team up again when Fred (Luke Perry) enlists FP (Skeet Ulrich) and Sheriff Keller (Martin Cummins) to help him, Aguirre-Sacasa is looking to do a flashback episode this season in which we will see more of the parents stories, and Gladys and Jellybean Jones will make their way to Riverdale in around episode 8 or 9 of Season 3.

As well as this, Aguirre-Sacasa mentioned that “there will definitely be another musical episode.” Which hopefully won’t be as thoroughly disappointing as the last one – check out our review here.

On top of all these announcements, it was also revealed that Penelope Ann Miller will join Riverdale as district attorney Ms. Wright, which gives us a small hint at the potential fate of Archie, who was hauled off to jail in the finale of Season 2 after being framed for the murder of Shadow Lake resident, Cassidy.

Ms. Wright is the eloquent and savvy prosecuting attorney in Archie’s case. Wanting the boy convicted, she will work on taking moments of Archie’s young life and transforming him into a dangerous sociopath in the eyes of a jury.

Riverdale returns on October 10th.
