During their panel at SDCC, The Purge TV adaptation released its first official trailer.

Showing us a few glimpses of the characters portrayed by William Baldwin, Fiona Dourif, and Gabriel Chavarria, the trailer is just as crazy and violent as you’d expect from the franchise. Chavarria’s Marine, Miguel seems to be at the centre of the action, and just back from deployment, he must fight to find his sister on Purge night before things get too crazy.

But, this is The Purge, and nothing’s that simple. We see proof of that when Miguel is forced to take part in the Gauntlet competition, which Chavarria described as “a death course of crazy things he has to go through in order to survive.”

James DeMonaco, writer and director of the first three films (and writer of the fourth) is serving as executive producer, and said of the show:

“We follow four what-seem-to-be separate story lines of people going out on the evening and experiencing the Purge. The real estate of the 10 hours of the TV allows us to use flashback, where we flash back out of the Purge world into the regular lives, the non-Purge days, of this future America. We get to see who these people are when it’s not Purge night and the events that led them to where they are on the particular Purge night that we are following. I think it’s a great device.”

The Purge TV series premieres on USA and SyFy on September 4th.
