Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as filmed his final scene as Jaime Lannister, but he isn’t done with the series yet.
Season 8 of the global phenomenon will premiere next year, but there’s no news yet on when we can expect the final six episodes to be shown, as while early summer has traditionally been when Game of Thrones premieres, that might not be the case with Season 8. As even though the final season is delayed, cast and crew alike are working hard to bring the drama to a close.
Coster-Waldau, who has been a part of the show since the very beginning, is confident that the ending will be well worth the wait, as according to the actor, Season 8 is the series’ most ambitious to date.
In an interview with Variety, Coster-Waldau teased some minor details about the anticipated finale, and though he gave no hint as to what Jaime’s final moment is, he did reveal that the scene has already been filmed. However, he did also explain that he isn’t 100% done, and will be returning to that filming location in the coming weeks.
When talking about the season as a whole, Coster-Waldau went into a little more details, praising Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff:
“They just couldn’t have done a better job on ending our story. We’ve worked harder than ever before. We spent twice as much shooting these six episodes than we did on two full seasons before. No expense has been spared. We’ve gone all in.”
The information isn’t particularly surprising, but it is exciting. The reason that Season 8 has such a small episode count is due to the budget not being able to stretch to the usual 10 episodes, so it makes sense that this season would be Game of Thrones’ most expensive. And that’s saying something, given last season ending with an undead ice dragon destroying The Wall. Which can’t have been cheap.
Season 8 of Game of Thrones will return at some point in 2019.
