Today, Netflix and Dreamworks released a slew of new announcements in a press release today, revealing six new original animated series coming to our screens in 2018. These included disposeable new-age offerings like Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, The Boss Baby: Back in Business, Harvey Street Kids, The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, and Trollhunters (Part 3) and 3 Below – but the most exciting of all is that She-Ra!, the Princess of Power will be returning.
In a reboot, helmed by Lumberjanes and Nimona creator Noelle Stevenson, She-Ra, twin sister of Prince Adam of Eternia a.k.a. He-Man, will come to Netflix in all her technicolour glory.
Originally introduced in the animated movie, The Secret of the Sword, as a foe for He-Man, it was soon revealed that she was his secret twin sister, upon which she brought into the greater He-Man world. And, holding the Sword of Protection up in the air, Princess Adora gained the power to transform into She-Ra!
Stevenson is no stranger to the techno barbarian genre which He-Man and She-Ra call home, as her comic phenomenon, Nimona, about the journey of a young shapeshifter, is also housed here. It seems that for a creator as talented as Stevenson, the possibilities are endless, and given her work usually deals with the themes of sexuality, friendship, and personal growth, she may be just the person to realise a version of She-Ra that fans will truly enjoy.
It seems that from an announcement from Stevenson on Twitter, that this She-Ra reboot has been in the works for a while:
I've been working on this in secret along with some really incredible talent for almost two years now. Stay tuned for more details over the next few months – can't wait for you to see what we're doing.

Dreamworks seems to be as excited about this new venture as anyone, explaining in their press release, “The trailblazing property originally debuted in 1985 to satisfy overwhelming demand for a female lead fantasy series. With Stevenson’s unique voice at the helm, fans are in store for an epic and timely tale that celebrates female friendship and empowerment, lead by a warrior princess tailor made for today.”
