In 2014 Wesley Snipes spoke strongly of his desire to return as the vampire hunting Daywalker, Blade. Several sources spoke true about his return to the franchise and including him in the greater Avengers teams that were growing in the cinematic universe. Fans rejoiced in the idea of him resuming the character they had grown up with (at least on screen). However, it now seems that a reboot is imminent and may not be including Snipes. This is not good news.

Let’s not forget that the Blade movie was a sleeper hit for Marvel and New Line Cinema back in 1998, and garnered a cult following despite mixed reviews. Wesley Snipes became synonymous with the character which also saw a renaissance at Marvel with several new titles and even joining Captain Britain and MI13 during the Secret Invasion storyline. His natural martial art skills and swordplay combined with a deep love and appreciation for the character meant that people couldn’t see anyone else in the role. It spawned 2 sequels and even an enjoyable but short-lived TV series starring rapper-turned-actor Kirk ‘Sticky Fingaz’ Jones as Blade.

In addition to the cinematic trilogy he has made numerous appearances in other mediums including the Spider-Man Animated Series, Ultimate Spider-Man, an Anime series and several games on various platforms.

Creed and Fantastic 4 actor Michael B. Jordan is one option to take on the role but then I’d like to see Black Dynamite actor Michael Jai White slice and dice his way through the plasma-lovers of the night.

Who would you prefer to take up the vampire hunting mantle if Snipes is really out for the running?

Blade first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973), created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan
