SEGA has revealed that Special Stages will appear in Sonic Mania. The news comes from their Sonic Mania: Behind The Scenes panel at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. An eagle eyed Twitter account, =The Sonic Stadium= revealed in a tweet that the special stages would be making an appearance in the nostalgic 2D Sonic game. The account spotted the stages in a panel at SDCC over the weekend, the tweet can be viewed below;

SEGA have released an official Special Stage OST accompaniment for the announcement which can be heard in the video below:
Sonic Mania is an upcoming side-scrolling platform game developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games and published by Sega. The game hearkens back to the golden age of the series’ 2D platforming roots and attempts to recapture the magic which once made Sonic a force to be reckoned with.
Sonic Mania releases August 15 for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC.
