Much like with Venom, and Black Cat and Silver Sable, Sony is working on a Spider-Man spinoff movie which will centre around antihero Morbius, the Living Vampire.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the film, currently titled Morbius, has been developed in secret of the studio. Writers of Power Rangers and Dracula Untold, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, have recently submitted a script to Sony.

Dr. Michael Morbius, is a biochemist who, in an attempt to cure a fatal blood disease, injects himself with a serum derived from bats. Subsequently, he is transformed into a creature with vampire-like traits, including super strength, super reflexes and a thirst for human blood. Morbius was originally presented as a Spider-Man antagonist, only to later evolve into a Marvel antihero.

The character appeared in Marvel Comics like Vampire Tales and Adventure Into Fear in the 1970s. Later, in the early ‘90s and ‘10s, Morbius was realised in his own standalone comic series. He was then reimagined as a more traditional vampire in Marvel’s Ultimate universe, which served as major inspiration for Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. However, at the moment, it isn’t clear which incarnation of the character Sony plans to use in this movie.
