Extra! Extra! Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be returning to the MCU!
After a very public parting of ways between Disney and Sony, the two company’s have now struck a deal that will see Marvel produce another Spider-Man film for Sony – which even has a 2021 release date.
Marvel Studios’ head honcho Kevin Feige said of the deal, “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
Another part of the deal says that Spider-Man will appear in a future Marvel film, presumably separate to the hero’s solo franchise.
THR explains that the terms of the new deal haven’t been revealed, but this arrangement will allow Feige to produce and run creative on one more film starring Holland. It’s possible that depending on how that goes, we could see more in the future.
Amy Pascal will produce through Pascal Pictures, as she has for the first two films in the franchise. She said of the decision, “This is terrific. Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes. This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”
As for the film’s stars, Tom Holland (Peter Parker) and Zendaya (MJ) certainly seem thrilled with the news:
The third Spider-Man film is set for release on July 16th, 2021.
