The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a lot of strong female characters, but we’re still yet to have solo female superhero movie, despite fans desires. However, comic icon Stan Lee may have let slip that a Black Widow movie is in the pipeline.
Ant-Man and the Wasp will be the first in 17 MCU movies that will have a female lead, however Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp will still be sharing the spotlight with lead superhero Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). And while fans have been asking for a solo Black Widow movie since Scarlett Johansson‘s first outing in Iron Man 2, there’s been no news on that front in a long time.
However, at a panel with Stan Lee at Supanova in Brisbane, a fan has claimed that Stan Lee revealed that a Black Widow movie is happening:
“Someone just asked him if he’d like to see a Black Widow movie. His assistant replied with ‘Funny you should ask that’ and then Stan said that it’s happening.”
Lee was also the first to reveal that a Black Panther movie was in the works before it was officially confirmed a couple of years ago – so could he be right this time? It’s probably safe to assume he’s in conversation with Marvel, so this could be fact.
Thor: Ragnarok director, Taika Waititi also revealed recently that he would really like to make a Black Widow movie, so perhaps he is the one to spearhead the production.
If it is happening, then we likely won’t see the film coming out until the 2020s, given that Marvel has all of their upcoming films planned out, but it’s certainly an exciting prospect.
