With possibly more Next Gen cameos.
After news of Star Trek: Picard receiving millions in California tax credits last month, a second season of the spinoff was pretty much guaranteed, but at this month’s TCA, CBS All Access have officially confirmed the renewal.
Julie McNamara, Chief of Original Content for CBS All Access, told the assembled press, “The energy and excitement around the premiere of Star Trek: Picard has reached a magnitude greater than all of us at CBS All Access could have hoped for. We’re thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series’ debut, and we are confident that Star Trek fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team’s meticulously crafted story when it premieres on January 23rd.”
The highly-anticipated series sees Sir Patrick Stewart reprise his role for the first time since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis. Picard also sees a number of Stewart’s Next Gen co-stars reprise their roles, including Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan and Jonathan Del Arc.
According to Stewart himself, we might well be seeing more of his former co-stars in Picard’s future. He told the press, “It is my hope that whenever the series wraps, we will have encountered all the principal actors from Next Generation.”
More on Picard when we have it.
