The emperor speaks
The final trailer for the final instalment of the Skywalker Saga has finally arrived.
This trailer contains a lot of new footage, amid several voiceover clips, from many characters including the returning Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).
“Long have I waited,” he says, as we see a skeletal throne, “And now your coming together…is your undoing.”
We see Rey (Daisy Ridley) running through a forest, Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) facing each other in what is rumoured to be the Death Star wreckage – as well as the duo teaming up, the rebels gunning down stormtroopers, and an incredibly ominous clip where C-3P0 (Anthony Daniels) says that he is “taking one last look at my friends.”
Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) also offers some wisdom from beyond the grave, “Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi. Your destiny.”
Also released was a new, more classic Star Wars-style poster:
The Rise of Skywalker is bringing to an end a saga that’s more than 40 years old, and that responsibility came down to the film’s director, J.J. Abrams who told Entertainment Weekly, “This is about bringing this thing to a close in a way that is emotional and meaningful and also satisfying in terms of actually answering [as many] questions as possible. So if years from now, someone’s watching these movies, all nine of them, they’re watching a story that is as cohesive as possible.”
It’s certainly an exciting prospect, if not one that’s a little worrying for Star Wars fans everywhere.
Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 19th in the UK, and December 20th in the US.
