Oscar-winner Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave) is back with heist thriller, Widows, co-written by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.
Besides the amazing creative team behind the camera, Widows also has a more-than impressive cast. Not content with pulling in names like Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, and Robert Duvall, the cast also includes Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, and Michelle Rodriguez as the leading ladies who lose their criminal husbands during a robbery gone wrong. Annoyed, and determined to get the money themselves, Davis leads the group on the mission to finish their late husbands’ heist.
And, if this cast wasn’t already shaping up to be the year’s best, the trailer also reveals Daniel Kaluuya, Brian Tyree Henry, Jacki Weaver and Carrie Coon, so what more do you need?
The synopsis for Widows, reads:
“From Academy Award®-winning director Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and co-writer and bestselling author Gillian Flynn (“Gone Girl”) comes a blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. “Widows” is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Oscar® winner Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. “Widows” also stars Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.”
This honestly looks better than the film Oceans 8 could have been if it didn’t unnecessarily tie itself to the Oceans franchise.
Widows is slated for release on November 9th in the UK, and November 16th in the US.
