A new villain is coming to National City, as Rhona Mitra has been cast in the recurring role of Mercy Graves in The CW’s Supergirl.
Based on the DC Comics character, Mercy Graves is an ex-CADMUS agent who has always believed in human exceptionalism, but with both Lillian and Lex in prison, Mercy is stepping out of their shadow to run her own show. With wit and brawn, Mercy steadily becomes a key figure in National City’s “human-first” movement.
Also joining the cast is Robert Baker, who will play Mercy’s brother Otis Graves, and her defacto right hand man. The character of Otis featured in the Christopher Reeve Superman films, played by Ned Beatty, but has not featured in the comic books.
The character of Mercy Graves was reintroduced in the New 52 comics in 2011 as being of Asian heritage, having previously only been show as being Caucasian, though the character has been voiced by actresses of many different ethnicities. Most recently, she was played by Tao Okamoto in the 2016 film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Supergirl returns for a fourth season on October 14th.
