Starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch
The CW’s DC universe is expanding, with Superman & Lois, a drama based on the DC characters and starring Supergirl’s Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the iconic comic book duo.
The hourlong project, currently in development, comes from The Flash executive producer Todd Helbing, Arrowverse architect Greg Berlanti, and Warner Bros. TV, where both Berlanti and Helbing have deals.
Helbing has written the series, based on the DC characters by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Superman & Lois follows the world’s biggest superman and the most famous journalist in comic books as they deal with the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.
Many of the current DC series are reaching maturity, and the one that launched the CW’s universe, Arrow, is now in its final season, so the network is stepping up its effort in the development of DC series. They are doing this with two high-profile series – Superman & Lois, and the Arrow spinoff which will see Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy reprise their roles.
This series however is being developed as a standalone pilot, not introduced as a planted spinoff from one of the existing DC/CW series, marking a new stage in the universe’s development.
Hoechlin has been playing the Man of Steel in the Arrowverse since 2016, primarily appearing in Supergirl. Tulloch was first introduced as Lois Lane last year when she appeared alongside Hoechlin in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover event, Elseworlds. Since then she has appeared in Supergirl, The Flash, and Batwoman.
