The CW’s longest-running series is finally coming to an end, as it has been announced that fan-favourite Supernatural will complete its run after the upcoming 15th season, which will consist of only 20 episodes.
The announcement was made by actors Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins through two Instagram videos:
“Well, it’s official. One more round for the Winchester brothers. Though nothing ever really ends in Supernatural…does it?” Ackles wrote alongside the video.
Supernatural isn’t merely the longest-running series on The CW, but the longest-running American sci-fi series, as it will end with a combined run of 327 episodes. Fourteen seasons in, and the series continues to be a ratings performer, ranking as The CW’s second most-watched and highest-rated series among adults aged 18-49, only behind The Flash.
Executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb released a joint statement, which read: “Firstly, we would like to thank all the people who have been involved with the show both in front of and behind the camera. For us it has been an experience of a lifetime. The support we have had from both Warner Bros Television and The CW has been incredible. We’d like to give special thanks to Jensen, Jared and Misha for making this journey so special. It is now most important to us to give these characters that we love the send off they deserve.”
