Everyone’s favourite rock star
Taika Waititi has confirmed that his character, Korg, will be returning to the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder.
The filmmaker revealed the news during an appearance on The Jimmy Kimmel Show to promote his new film, Jojo Rabbit.
When asked about the next instalment of the Thor franchise, he told the audience “My character’s coming back, Korg.”
There’s been a lot of speculation over the progress of the script, and Waititi shut down rumours by giving an update on his writing progress, saying “I just finished a couple of drafts of that story. There’s more Thor!”
Love and Thunder will see Chris Hemsworth reprise his role as the God of Thunder, as well as Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster picking up the Thor mantle as Mighty Thor. Portman quit the franchise over creative differences following Thor: The Dark World (presumably she wanted to make a good film, and they obviously didn’t) however, it seems that Waititi’s Ragnarok inspired her to return in a big way.
According to the Kiwi creative, the plot of the film could see Jane battling breast cancer, as she does in the comic books, before being deemed worthy to wield Mjolnir (which presumably will be returned by Captain America) and the Mighty Thor title with it.
The fourth film will also see the return of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie as the MCU’s first official LGBT superhero, and as she told fans at SDCC over the summer, “As new king, she needs to find her queen. That will be her first order of business. She has some ideas. Keep you posted.”
Thor: Love and Thunder is slated for release on November 5th, 2021.
