Netflix has released a teaser for Matt Groening’s latest animated series, Disenchantment.
As the narrator explains, we’ve seen Groening’s take on the future in Futurama, the present in The Simpsons, so all that remains is Disenchantment, a clever dig at the critics who frequently claim that the creator’s best days are behind him.
In a past kingdom, a robed prisoner is dragged before the King, ready for judgement, and the “pile of scum” receives it by the bucketload, as they have insult after insult lobbed at them from the Kingdom’s lofty leader.
But the response from the prisoner? “Hi, Dad,” from Abbi Jacobson’s Bean, the hard-drinking, fun-loving princess whose misadventures the series follows.
Coming to Netflix this August, Groening’s 10-episode adult comedy series will take viewers to “the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.”
Featuring the voice talents of Jacobson, Nat Faxon, Eric Andre, John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery, the series is sure to be just as much of a hit as Groening’s other works.
