Old school game Tetris is getting a modern makeover, as Tetsuya Mizuguchi, creator of Rez and Lumines, has announced that new game Tetris Effect will be coming to PS4 and PSVR this fall.

Named for the real effect in which Tetris players will visualise the blocks and lines disappearing long after they have played the game, Tetris Effect will feature fan-favourite modes like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra. However, after the launch more brand-new modes will be announced.

The first of the new features to be announced is “The Zone” with which “players can stop time (and Tetriminos falling) […] and either get out of a sticky situation that could otherwise lead to “Game Over,” or rack up extra line clears for bonus rewards.”

The game’s 30+ levels come with different music and are said to react to your play, with 3D effects that surround you and “pulse, dance, shimmer, and explode in perfect sync with how you’re playing.” You can read more of what Mizuguchi has to say about the game, here on the PlayStation Blog.
