Warner Bros. has finally announced that their next Dark Knight film, The Batman, has set a release date.
Today, Deadline reported that Warner Bros. has finally settled on a date for the release of The Batman, which Matt Reeves has been attached to write and direct since 2017. The report also stated that Ben Affleck will apparently not be returning in the titular role, as this film will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne.
Reeves took over from Affleck on the film, who was originally set to direct off a script he wrote along with DC’s Geoff Johns. The actor has a busy schedule ahead of him, starring and producing the film adaptation of Kate Alice Marshall’s I Am Still Alive, as well as starring in Gavin O’Connor’s drama, Torrance. Affleck worked hard on the story for The Batman, but ultimately felt he wasn’t the right fit for the film’s Bruce Wayne. The search is currently underway for a new caped crusader.
While many expected that The Batman would be based on Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, a favourite of Reeves’, but the director has since stated that this isn’t so.
There are no hard feelings between Reeves and Affleck, however, as the actor tweeted his support for the upcoming film:
