Early renewals all over
Once again, The CW has given early renewal to all 13 of its current slate of scripted series, excluding those that will end this season.
Nancy Drew and Batwoman have both been picked up for a second season, while All American, Charmed, In the Dark, Legacies, and Roswell, New Mexico will all return for a third season.
Black Lightning and Dynasty have been picked up for a fourth season, Riverdale for a fifth, and Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow for a sixth. But, ahead of the pack is The Flash which will return for its seventh season.
For In the Dark, Roswell and Legends of Tomorrow, these renewals come before the current seasons have actually premiered, though the top brass at The CW have already seen episodes. However, in the case of All American, this renewal is a stark contrast to this time last year, when the series was the only one to not appear on the network’s early renewal list, but was eventually picked up thanks to, in part, strong early streaming results on Netflix.
CW President Mark Pedowitz said of the renewals, “These early orders for next season give out production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favourite CW shows to build on for next season. We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early sages of our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman.”
