And the fallout of Endgame
The synopsis for Marvel Studios’ The Eternals has been officially released, giving fans an idea of what new villains we can expect, as well as where the film fits into the existing MCU timeline.
It reads: “Marvel Studios’ The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”
The main thing we can take away from this is that while The Eternals have lived through much of modern history, we will be meeting them in the present day, following the events of Endgame which sets the story in roughly 2024. Perhaps this will lead to flashbacks to the heroes in earlier days, to fill in some of the backstory we may be missing.
Their main enemy will be The Deviants, who, like The Eternals were created by the Celestials and act as a dark mirror to the heroic team. In the comics, they set out to terrorise humanity, but time and time again find their plans thwarted by the super group.
Kevin Feige previously described the relationship between the two groups at SDCC last summer, “The Eternals are a race of immortal aliens sent [to Earth] by the Celestials to protect humankind from the Deviants.”
The Eternals is currently set for release on November 6th, 2020.
